Mill Towns Trail R0641

Bridge R0641 is a 298 ft long, 3-span steel bowstring truss that crosses over the Cannon River immediately downstream of Byllesby Dam. The superstructure consists of span lengths of 59 ft – 200 ft – 39 ft, and has a 12 ft clear width. There are also 3-ft wide overlooks on each side of the bridge located in the center span, which provides a total clear width of 18 ft. The bridge superstructure is supported on concrete abutments and piers anchored into bedrock. The bridge is designed for a 20,000 lb vehicle load.
The bridge is located immediately downstream of a new spillway at Byllesby Dam, which was constructed concurrently with the trail bridge. The bridge piers were designed to withstand forces created from large flood flows when water is discharged through the spillway.
